Sirmaur Police
Brief Profile of the Department
The genesis of policing in Sirmour dates back to pre independence when Sirmour was a princely state and the Police Department was under the charge of a Superintendent of Police who was directly responsible to the Raja. During the reign of Raja Shamsher Prakash, each police station was in charge of a Deputy Inspector, re-designated in 1934 as a Sub-Inspector. The total strength of the police force, which was only 129 in 1904 was increased to 206 in 1934. The department was administered by the Raja on the lines of the Punjab Police Act, the rules thereunder and the Punjab Police Code.

Activities Performed by the Department
Various activities Like Community policing Scheme, Traffic rules & awareness program, Self Defence Training etc are organized by the department time to time.
- Community Policing Scheme: Community Policing is a strategy of policing that focuses on police building ties and working closely with members of the communities. It is a policy that requires police to inherit a proactive approach to address public safety concerns.
- Traffic Rules & Awareness Programs: Awareness of traffic rules can save the life of both drivers and pedestrians.
- Self Defence Training for Girls: Many trained police officials of Sirmour district are imparting self defense training (UAC) to the girls students in the schools of Sirmour district to build the confidence among the school going girls. Rape, molestation, kidnapping and murder are the most common forms of crime against women in India. The women in India are also vulnerable to acid attacks and eve-teasing. The mindset of the people, including the victim and the spectator, is to ignore and just let it go. But, what we, as the responsible citizens of an independent country, fail to realize is that these instances of harassment can flare up into other bigger heinous crimes against women. And that is when the importance of learning self-defence techniques for women is felt.
- Shakti App / Gudiya Help Line: Government of Himachal Pradesh has launched “Shakti Helpline” number on dated 26/01/2018 in order to ensure safety and security of the Women. This helpline number 7650002024 shall be functional 24 X 7 in this district.
